Stefan Postol is an artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, restoration, and public murals across Europe. He simultaneously develops multiple collections in distinct styles, guided by curiosity and a commitment to exploring the possibilities of color, texture, and form. His art is both immersive and reflective, blending technical mastery with emotional depth. In this interview, he talks about his creative process, the ideas behind his work, and how art shapes both his life and the lives of others. Through workshops, gallery exhibitions, and large-scale projects, Stefan creates spaces where audiences can engage with art on a personal level, proving that creativity is a practice of exploration, discovery, and connection.
1. For readers who may not know your work, how would you describe your art and the ideas you explore?
Stefan Postol: As an artist, I move beyond fixed boundaries. I often work on two or three collections at the same time, each in a different style. Most of the time, these bodies of work are completely different from one another, which is why I do not confine myself to a single style, approach, or scale. I would say that curiosity guides my practice. I am interested in discovering what I can explore and how far that exploration can go.
2. Can you take us back to the beginning — when did you first realize you wanted to create, and what drew you to visual art?
Stefan Postol: It was during my school years. At first, I wanted to explore the piano and attend an art high school. But fate intervened when my mother met a visual artist. After my first visit to his studio, I was certain that I wanted to paint. I do not recall a specific drawing from that time. I was constantly dissatisfied with my beginner results.
3. Beyond your paintings and restorations, you’ve created impressive murals and sculptures across Europe, including Amsterdam and Luxembourg. Which project took you the longest to complete?
I am a fast executor, but I did sculpt and theme the main stage at Tomorrowland, and that project felt endless. It was truly massive in scale. Under normal circumstances, I work extremely fast because once I start a piece, its final form is already about 90 percent designed in my mind. The concept phase lasts longer than the execution itself.

4. Do you have a favorite piece you have ever made, and why does it stand out to you?
I particularly enjoyed working on the collection Energy from Colors. It allowed me to experiment deeply with the relationship between texture and color, and to explore how they influence one another on an emotional level.

5. Viewers sometimes interpret art in unexpected ways. Have you ever been surprised by how someone responded to your work?
Yes, absolutely. The most fascinating interpretations often come from children. Abstract art naturally opens up rich conversations, especially when it is experienced in a relaxed setting. It becomes even more interesting when a wine tasting happens alongside the exhibition. 😊
6. Art can be deeply personal. Have you noticed how artists, including yourself, can process emotions, reflect, or even experience healing over time through creating?
Art is deeply personal. It can work in harmony with the artist’s personality, but it can also become a reflection of the artist’s inner needs. Sometimes it represents a process of research, other times it simply expresses lived experiences and emotional states. Art therapy, in particular, explores the self beyond the ego and can become a powerful tool for emotional release. I enjoy incorporating art therapy into the workshops I lead, using it as a method of self-discovery and personal development.
7. In one of your Instagram videos, you mention that art is a form of meditation. Have you ever paused this practice for a while, and if so, what was the difference? How does life feel without it?
For me, it is hard to imagine a world without art, and even harder to imagine going a week without picking up a brush. I do not think I could ever truly stop creating.
8. Diving deeper into art therapy and healing, are there any colors, shapes, textures, or combinations that you feel reveal hidden emotions or trauma?
Art therapy brings out colors and forms that are charged with an individual’s experiences, emotions, and personality. They often communicate more than words can, carrying symbols, graphics, and marks that reveal inner states. I focus on observing and interpreting these elements, then guiding the person who created them toward insights through gentle suggestions.
9. Have you ever been so absorbed in a piece that you completely forgot to eat or sleep?
When I create, all other senses fade away. At the very least, the feeling of hunger or sleep disappears during the process of making art.
10. How does it feel to have your own art gallery in your hometown of Oradea?
S.P: It is an opportunity to share what I know and what I can offer with this wonderful city. It has not been easy. The path is still new, and the audience is not yet large, but I continue to showcase local artists. In just a few months, I have presented six different exhibitions, both solo and group shows, featuring fourteen professional artists and even a collective exhibition with students from the art high school. I am grateful to the collaborators who have helped as volunteers, motivated purely by their love for art.
